One Piece Odyssey is the latest RPG in the One Piece franchise. If you’ve watched the anime, and/or read the manga, you’ll more than likely love this game! The game itself was created to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the franchise, making this RPG all the more special for the fans. Luffy and his Straw Hat Crew set sail across the New World, but they end up shipwrecked after a storm. As you progress through the game, you’ll be able to play a variety of characters, such as Franky and Usopp.

A Disney+ Crash Course In The History Of Disney Animation
In most games, you’ve got to meet certain criteria when trying to reach a secret ending. However, in One Piece Odyssey, the secret ending can be reached by completing the game. There is one crucial rule though – you’ve got to watch the entirety of the credits! The secret ending will play on your screen soon after the final credits disappear.
Now, we won’t go into specifics as we don’t want to spoil this secret ending for you, but at least you know how to reach it now! You may be thinking “but isn’t this a post-credit cutscene?” – and yes, it technically is. Many players consider this a secret ending though, as a lot of people exit the game once the credits roll!I went into this release due to Hou being marketed as the «ultimate version», including every single arc that was added to the multiple ports over the years, and even some new content of its own. It indeed accomplishes this last part, having a total of 25 arcs (!), but it’s not ULTIMATE.
The problem is, if you’re a reasonable human being, you’ll want to do the original 8 arcs, and then, if you like the setting enough, you’ll do the other arcs, which were made after the fact as well, right? Well, tough luck. Hou forces you to do most of these side arcs in-between.
The Secret Of Guard Westwood (story Arc)
First, we have to go over how Hou is structured. Hou is divided into 5 parts. Let’s call these in English: «Cases», «Examination», «Research», «Answers», and «Transition». Each part is locked at the start, unlocking after you finish reading /every/ arc in the previous one.
Remember that last part. You have to read *every* arc to the end to unlock the next part. There IS a way to unlock them without doing that, though: through the Oyashiro Shock quiz.
Here you answer to Higurashi trivia. It can go from questions about the staff/production, to irrelevant character trivia, to outright spoilers. I want to add here that the game has NO option to skip unread text, so if you’re looking to skip side arcs instead, it will take a while. (If you set text speed to maximum and voices volume to minimum, you can semi-skip using the auto function, but know that it will be SLOW.)

Now, let’s see why reading all arcs is a problem, starting with «Cases». Here we have a short original prologue, the «common route», which is how you access every arc through choices, and 6 arcs.
These are Onikakushi, Watanagashi, Tatarigoroshi, Tsukiotoshi, Taraimawashi, and Someutsushi. The first 3 are part of the original Higurashi arcs, the latter being new ones made for console ports. Someutsushi in particular is about totally different characters, adapted from manga.
In «Examination» we have again a short prologue and 4 arcs: Himatsubushi, Meakashi, Hirukowashi, and Kageboushi. (This last one being the answer arc for Someutsushi.)
The Haunted House: The Secret Of The Ghost Ball (animation)
If you’re familiar with the original Higurashi, you can see one problem here already: you have to read 3 side arcs to get to Himatsubushi, the last of the original question arcs. Meakashi is then the first og answer arc, but you have to do 2 side arcs to continue reading Kai.
«Research» has yet again a short prologue, 4 arcs (Tsumihoroboshi, Yoigoshi, Minagoroshi, and Tokihogushi), and a short epilogue for, I believe, Tokihogushi.

Here’s where it gets REAL messy. In Hou, arcs are divided in chapters. When you play Tsumihoroboshi, after reading chapter 16, it will suddenly skip you to chapter 25. Immediately you’ll read a conversation and feel like you did in fact just skipped a lot of the story.

This is because it’ll automatically send you to a brand-new (original to the console ports) bad end. After that, you are forced to play Yoigoshi (a side arc, of course, and based on a manga) before you can go back and read the rest of Tsumihoroboshi 17-25 and the real ending.
Moving on to «Answers». This also labels a «prologue» here, but this is in fact the first part of Matsuribayashi, the last og Higurashi arc. It then continues to Kakeratsumugi, which is also part of Matsuribayashi, but with a twist (more on that later).
I’m complementing the info on what’s here from a walkthrough site since this is exactly where I left off. «Answers» also includes Matsuribayashi, Miotsukushi (Front), Miotsukushi (Back), Saikoroshi, Kotohogushi, and Hajisarashi.
Jim'll Paint It
Finally, «Transition». Not like I’ve read them… It’s all side arcs anyways. They’re the new ones to Hou. Higurashi Outbreak, Hinamizawa Bus Stop, Kamikashimashi, and Batsukoishi.
And here’s why I dropped Hou altogether: Kakeratsumugi is about connecting pieces of the story to get to Matsuribayashi. This happens in the original too, but there’s 50 pieces there and 99 in Hou. Hou also mentions that you get to Miotsukushi this way.

I stopped right there, so I don’t know the exact details, but I’m guessing this is why they make you read all the side arcs. You probably have to piece together the story of not only OG Higurashi, but the entire Cinematic Universe including all the side arcs.
Dragon Ball Super Outs Trunks' Biggest Secret In New Chapter
I skipped all of those because, as I said, I just wanted to read the OG arcs first, so I don’t think I can or even should read what Hou is presenting. So that’s why I’m gonna read the PC version for the rest. However, I’m now used to the Hou sprites and CGs, so I’ll have to wait until the 07th-mod for Matsuribayashi is finished. JEEZ.
Also, the start of Matsuribayashi (the «Answers» prologue in Hou) is HEAVILY censored in the console release, glossing over one plot point and just altogether getting rid of another very important one. More details on that here.
Not all is bad in Hou, though. One thing I really liked that, if not for that I would’ve changed to the PC version since at least Tsumihoroboshi, is the music. OG Higurashi, if I’m correctly informed, had mostly royalty-free music, up until Kai (later Kai?) got dai and the rest. Hou has some pretty good music from the start (though not Umineko-level, but at least it makes the difference more tolerable). 07th-mod sadly doesn’t add it in.
Arc: The 12 Basic Principles Of Animation
It also has a feature that lets you go back a line and jump to any line you’ve read, which is a very good QoL that’s always appreciated. Another bad part though, is that it doesn’t have the option to have voices keep playing after reading past the line. But well, not even the music can make me keep playing Hou to the end. Even if I ignored the needless skipping, spoiler-filled quizzes, and censorship, I just straight up can’t continue with Tsumugikakera without actually reading the rest of the arcs.
And who knows how fucking long these arcs are. I’m already 150 hours in at this point, and the flowchart says I’m only about 50% into the content in the game!!! And that’s counting Yoigoshi and Tokihogushi, which I DID skip-read!! (Didn’t want more quiz spoilers)

Oh, one last thing. There are these ‘Otsukaresamakais’ (kinda like Umineko’s Tea Parties) in, at least, the OG 4 arcs (maybe they’re also in the rest of the «Cases» arcs, who knows). These look like they’re new to the console ports and sometimes allude to the side arcs (though I’ve been informed the original PC release [not Steam] did have Otsukaresamakais), but anyways, they don’t have spoilers and are fun, so they’re safe to read. (I wanted to know this back when I read them and had no info, so I’m saying it for posterity’s sake)

The last one also points out how the devs are totally aware of how fucked up the entire Hou system is. Lol. Bastards.
I wish the 07th-mod patched in the music, because that would absolutely make that THE Ultimate version. I can sacrifice scene jumping. That’s all for now. Hope this helps and serves as a warning to anyone looking into playing the console ports.
